3D Cellphone Localization in E911

Dr. Jian “Jet” Zhu
Polaris Wireless

This talk provides an overview of cellphone location technologies in E911 services today. We’ll review location accuracy requirements set by FCC and present technologies currently available to enhance location accuracy further, especially in the vertical dimension, also known as the z-axis.

Dr. Jian (Jet) Zhu is a Principal Research Engineer at Polaris Wireless. He received the MSEE and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2003 and 2006, respectively. Dr. Zhu is the team leader for 3D location and tracking research at Polaris Wireless. He is in charge of location system accuracy, system architecture, bias estimation, and integration. Dr. Zhu’s research interests are in the areas of radio localization, location tracking, RF propagation modeling, data mining, and visualization, especially for indoor environments.
